Attempted a "stakeout" for #theartassignment. Watched from a nearby cafe to see if anyone would hug this sad teddy bear. Security removed it within 5 minutes and said "when people see things like this in public it makes them worry and causes trouble for us". Nobody hugged the teddy bear. Nothing but suspicion for this lonely bear, who I bought from a charity shop that where he'd been languishing for at least six months with only the love of the very sympathetic staff for comfort.
This assignment comes from Sarah Urist Green and PBS Digital’s The Art Assignment – a series that began in 2014, and has now given 60 assignments for people to try out and publish on social media. Each assignment is created by a different featured artist – this one was by Deb Sokolow, a Chicago-based artist who uses sleuthy observation and massive diagrams.
